The making of Serge

The making of Serge

As someone who LOVES to set myself a challenge, I’ve really gone above and beyond with the intricacies of the production in this collection 😃 🫣. As M&S would say….This is not just any striped top, this is a SERGE striped top!
colourful-stripe-coatTypically when you order from AL it’s a two step process when it comes to cutting.
  1. 😅 Roll out fabric required

  2. ✂️ Place pattern piece over the top and cut

black-and-white-stripeHowever for this collection, Serge, I have added about 7 billion additional steps (never one to exaggerate 🤯) and we are creating our own fabric as well as garments*.
This collection has been 4 years in the making. Previously we haven’t been able to do it, but because we now offer made-to-order, on a much smaller scale, we are able to allocate the time it takes to create such special pieces.
  1. ✂️ The fabric required is cut into strips

  2. 🪡 The strips will then be given to our head seamstress Ausra who will sew the strips together to make your stripe

  3. 🤓The piece of striped fabric will then come back to the cutter, who will then place the pattern piece on the fabric, and match each stripe to the specified segment of the pattern piece

  4. ✂️ Cut around the stripe piece, alongside the other pieces of the garment before handing over to Ausra to be sewn together

*The number of processes is SO worth it, as each sample comes out I fall in love with each design a little bit more!
